Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I can think of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t’was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli’ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England’s overthrow;
By God’s providence he was catch’d
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

One of the most fun times I have ever had was a few years ago when I joint my friends to set off fireworks. We went to one of the friends an allotment that is located on top of a hill; from there you can see the rest of Exeter. With the supervision of an adult, we let of fireworks and watched them as they exploded and joint with the other sparkles of colourful fire in the sky that could bee seen coming from houses all over Exeter.

At one point in the night a rocket was let off, unfortunately it wasn’t placed in it’s tube properly, so it fell over and shot towards us. Luckily there was a heap of horse dung near us; which we quickly dived behind. The rocket got stuck in the dung and exploded, throwing bits of horse manure everywhere. Thankfully no one was hurt, and we all had a laugh about it afterwards.

This is just a note to everyone who is planning on letting fireworks off tonight. Please be careful!

Pardon my ignorance, but is Guy Fawkes day celebrating the fact that he was caught, or that he was trying to overthrow the government? Or both? It always seemed a bit fuzzy to me.

It celebrates the fact that he was caught. It’s traditional to create a dummy of Guy Fawkes out materials; This is called “the guy”. Sometimes people would beg with it asking “Penny for the Guy”. The Guy Fawkes is then thrown in a bonfire.
